3xLOGIC, Inc., a provider of integrated intelligent security solutions, announced that Silktown roofing, Manchester CT, has installed four 3xLOGIC VERA thermal cameras to combat thefts occurring in their expansive parking and storage lot.

Silktown Roofing is a full-service roofing contractor that specialises in the largest new construction projects, replacement of existing roofing systems, waterproofing, aggressive preventative maintenance for the entire building envelope, and the unexpected emergency leak repair. Founded in 1984 with just six employees, the company now boasts over 300 employees at three locations.

Security monitoring service

The 3xLOGIC thermal cameras were installed in July by Sonitrol New England after a previous surveillance technology failed to curtail robberies of Silktown vehicle catalytic converters. Silktown’s security monitoring service and integrator, Sonitrol NE, recommended thermal camera technology by 3xLOGIC. Jim Erlandson is the Warehouse Manager, and he oversaw the camera selection and installation. “We’ve got most of the fenced-in area covered now, and the cameras are quite effective. I’ve run test break-ins a few times to check the system, and on those occasions Sonitrol definitely gets the alarm right away.”

On those instances which are not a system test, Sonitrol NE gets an alarm triggered by one of the cameras detecting motion with a valid heat signature. Sonitrol staff play back the video to confirm it is a human entering the secure area, and then they notify the police.

The system as installed has been configured so that when a driver is entering the protected area by vehicle, they swipe an access card at the gate, which deactivates the thermal cameras. Upon leaving the yard, swiping out at the gate reactivates the thermal camera protection. “I test the access card feature and the overall system, and when I confirm that it’s working well, that gives me good peace of mind,” said Erlandson. “The cameras are working well, we’re pleased.”
