The Challenge

In November, the club hosted the MTV TRL (Total Request Live) Chart Show, a live, daily chart countdown show, featuring exclusive interviews and performances from A-list music and showbiz celebrities.

Located in a converted church in Leith just outside of Edinburgh, the Commplex is a 450 capacity multifunctional venue, split onto two levels and host to various club nights and live bands, as well as weddings and corporate events.

TRL was broadcast live from the Commplex, a stone's throw away from the venue of the MTV Europe Music Awards.

VIP artists at the awards who popped in to chat to presenter Dave Berry on their way to and from rehearsals included Kylie, Justin Timberlake, The Darkness, Beyonce and Atomic Kitten.

Club owner Kevin Hay explains: 'With some of the biggest names in the music business in the building, security was obviously a key consideration.  With such a high calibre celebrity line up, we had to be 110% confident about the equipment we were installing.'

The Solution

Euro-Tec Solutions recommended a digital system upgrade to a 16-way DS2 digital multiplex recorder from Dedicated Micros.  DS2 offers a cost-effective combination of video multiplexing, digital recording, network video transmission and dome control in one self-contained, easy to use and install package.

Digital images are recorded for up to 21 days on the DS2 internal 320GB hard drive. Pictures from twelve mono cameras covering entry/exit points and key locations inside the venue, are monitored on site from the main office and reviewed for management and operational purposes.  Footage of any incidents can be recalled at the touch of a button via powerful GoTo and event preview facilities.

Colin Brown, Director at Euro-Tec Solutions commented: 'DM products have a well earned reputation for reliability, they're also easy to use which was critical as the security staff had to hit the ground running with the new system for the MTV broadcasts.'

He added: 'Crowd monitoring and health and safety were our priority as ever - but we didn't know we would get such a star-studded inauguration!'
