Dedicated Micros has delivered the main CCTV element for DangerPoint, an innovative safety education centre created by the Police and the key agencies responsible for safety in North Wales. The centre at Talacre, Flintshire, is targeted at school children across the region and is scheduled to open to the public this September.

The centre has been designed to offer a series of safety-related interactive scenarios where children learn ‘hands on’ about the risks and dangers in everyday life. It has been fitted out with an Eco4 - a compact ‘plug and play’ DVR - and four cameras all from Dedicated Micros, which provide spot monitor display of the centre’s reception and shop area, as well as coverage of key exhibition zones including water, building site and home and garden safety.

It is planned that the CCTV solution will be multi-purpose in operation, being used not only for general surveillance but also to observe how children interact with the displays, and for training purposes so that trainers can see the reactions of students in the scenarios that they have set up.

“We are delighted by the active support provided by Dedicated Micros. Undoubtedly DangerPoint will make a real difference to children’s understanding of safety,” said Tom Barham, Project Manager for DangerPoint. “The aim is to discourage them from criminal activity and prevent accidents by stimulating their imagination and engaging them in interactive learning.”

DangerPoint is addressing the role and issues associated with CCTV across the different zones, especially those focusing on retail – where CCTV can play a critical role tackling problems such as shoplifting - and the railways.  The centre will also be drawing the childrens' attention to the CCTV solution at DangerPoint in presentation boards, scripts for its tour guides, and educational materials.

Said Pauline Norstrom, Head of Marketing at Dedicated Micros: “When we were approached by DangerPoint we were more than happy to help such a worthwhile initiative and believe that it is important to raise awareness of the valuable role that CCTV can play in the community with regards to safety and crime prevention.”
