Genie’s “Smart Cabling” passive Baluns are designed for use with Category 5e Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cable. UTP cable is more flexible than traditional coaxial cable, is lower cost and has better transmission qualities. Passive baluns do not require any power source and match the 75 impedance of coaxial cable to the 100 impedance of UTP cable. Passive Baluns can transmit and receive full motion composite video signals up to 300 metres in Colour and 600 metres in Monochrome.

VDS2500 transmits 2 x video, 2 x alarm and 2 x 12V Dc power over a single coaxial cable. It has LED indicators on both units to display status.

Preferably unshielded twisted-pair cables should be used for the signal transmission.  Are there already existing shielded cables which have to be used, the shield must only be earthed on one end, e. g. on transmitter side.  The best result will be achieved by using cables with a twist of up to 7-times per meter.  Shielded cables, cables with different wire diam., or a connection via patch fields, can considerably reduce the max. possible transmission length.
